|All bridge players make mistakes all the time.|
The difference between good players and the less exalted is that the good players make fewer and less serious mistakes.
Playing good bridge is more about avoiding mistakes than executing dazzling, brilliant play. Fancy conventions are all very well - but good solid basic bidding is much more important. There will be many, many more opportunities to respond corectly to partner's opening 1NT than to bid a slam using the latest clever gadget! One cannot learn to be brilliant but one can learn not to make the same mistakes over and over again.
This book analyses some of the mistakes beginners - and lots of experienced players - make all the time. It shows you what the mistake is, why you make it, and what you should do instead. Once you really understand why a particular action is wrong, you are much less likely to do it again. Even after reading this book you will still make mistakes, so it suggests some Really Good Alibis to use when you go wrong!
