This is a cracking account of a year (or so) in the life of a bridge (with a hint of poker thrown in for good measure) professional, Ireland’s Tom Hanlon. The reader gets to enjoy the triumphs and disasters that accompany Tom and the Irish team as they travel backwards and forwards across the world. The list of locations would fit easily into any James Bond movie, such as Yokohama, Warsaw, Las Vegas, Shanghai, to name but a few, and the characters you meet along the way include many of the world’s finest players.

Apart from being stuffed to the gills with action packed bridge deals and stories there is a wealth of advice that no one can fail to benefit from. I particularly liked the story of how our hero, fuelled by Grey Goose supreme vodka, drops a serious amount of money at the Blackjack table.
